Mother knows Best

Mary stood in the street. Just another face in the crowd. It was hot and dusty, her throat was dry. Then the mob surged forward.
      ‘Jesus Jesus,’ they shouted.
      When Mary saw her son, whipped and bleeding, her heart fell.
      ‘Oh Jesus,’ she said, ‘don't tell me you're into sado-masochism.’
      ‘No mother, it was the Romans.’
      ‘Oh you poor thing. What did they do?’
